ILLUSTRATED EDITION PROJECTS
A BOOK OF ADVICE FOR THOSE WHO STRUGGLE
2018
This book of prints was created as a final project for a season focused on monotype. It features fourteen individual plates, printed one-at-a-time, and original short story writing with words set by hand letterpress on 8" x 11" pages. It was assembled in an accordian fashion with a hand-stitched cotton book cover. In 2019 the project received a President's Award for Mixed Media Art from Diablo Valley College.
SO MANY WORDS, SO LITTLE TIME
2016-2017
This was an exploratory series I began in 2016 inspired by language and the feeling of a word paired with color, shape, and movement.
The collection consisted of small 5" x 7" gouache paintings accompanied by hand letter-pressed words in black ink. The nature of this word-pair project was to socially engage the viewer with visual abstract interpretations of a single word. We hear language every day, but usually without visual queues. Through this manner a word could become a powerful narrative on paper.
The series questions the human brain and its reaction to be affected by the interpretation of a thought-provoking image which may or may not have the dialogue or power to change one's relationship with that word forever.
This project has been shown publically during consecutive East Bay Open Studios exhibitions where editions of 50 prints were sold.
